It’s all about Sweater Weather

IMG_8902It’s all about sweater weather as the cold weather is officially here in Toronto Canada and I will be living in cozy knits from now until April (oh Canadian winters.)

My current favourite sweater was purchased at a recent sale at Urban Planet. I bought one sweater in black for $24.99 and got the second, an orange sweater (my current favorite featured in this post ) for just one cent. Urban Planet always has amazing sales pretty much weekly, you check their website or join the emailing or texting list to get notifications delivered straight to your email or phone.

According to one article from Huffington Post

Orange represents creativity, confidence, joy, sensuality and ambition. It suggests vibrant health and has positive effects on emotional states. Huffington Post suggests you to wear orange when you want to have fun, heighten creativity or heal emotions. Avoid it when you feel restless, dependent, fearful or want to relax.

I definitely feel confident ambitious joyful and sensual in this colour. What’s nice about this sweater, which you can buy in many different colours including this beautiful orange here , is it can be warn long, which looks amazing styled with leather leggings or as I have styled the sweater tucked into these amazing high wasted fringe hemmed jeans also from urban planet here.

Maple Pecan Pumpkin Muffins

One of my passions since I was a little girl has always been baking, however as an adult with a busy life I have definitely stopped baking as much as I would like too. Starting my blog has gotten me in touch with the many creative sides of baking. I’m excited to share more recipes with you all. I always like to make recipes my very own and substitute ingredients or ratios to existing recipes or family recipes to make them more unique and personal.

IMG_8499

My favourite Rum in the whole world is Bacardi Rum. This past weekend my agency G of G Inc had me partner with Bacardi Canada to serve up some delicious Halloween inspired cocktails. I have come up with my own version of the Zombie cocktail it’s easy and delicious and the best part is you can also adapt this drink into a punch bowl sized beverage to be enjoyed at parties, events and showers during any season not just Halloween.

1 oz. Bacardi Superior rum
1 oz. Bacardi Black rum
1 oz. lime juice
1 oz orange juice
1 tsp. grenadine syrup
1 tsp. superfine sugar or stevia
Garnish with Cherry and Orange Slice

Easy DIY Zombie Halloween Costume

DIY Zombie Halloween Costume

  1. Find an old school or distressed t shirt like this awesome one I found thrifting that literally says zombies on it.
  2. Use pale makeup to cover your entire face including lips , you want to look dead so making your lips look colorless is a good way to give off the corpse look.
  3. Use a light red blood toned blush on cheeks as a hint of color , line your eyes and use a good mascara to make them really pop. I have blue eyes and I am happy with the way they look however some people like to use contacts to make their eyes look even more spooky.
  4. For the hairstyle, go for the rats nest disheveled I’ve been eating people all day sort of look. I recommend to wash it the day before your Halloween event and when you wake up in the morning spray it with hairspray and tease and backcomb it really big, I add a few curls to make it look more stylish but the backcombing and hairspray give the locks a wild look.
  5. Take fake blood and put it all over your face neck and body to make it look like you are the undead feasting.
  6. For the bottom half depending on where you are going you could be more casual with jeans and sneakers or for the evening look make it more sexy with black leather leggings and heels or booties.

Anyone of any gender or age can make this easy costume with a few modifications or personal touches. Have 2 Halloween parties? Make night 2 a zombie version of night 1 costume.  Choose themed clothing or costumes  some examples are saved by the bell 90’s fashion, stranger things character or your favorite celebrity, a pregnant woman might include a zombie baby doll tummy. Whatever costume you like for Halloween just use the above DIY zombie costume steps in addition to your favorite Halloween costume.

How to be more popular at parties and social gatherings

Tips for being popular at parties and social gatherings
Treat others how you would like to be treated
1. Remember others names
Calling someone by name and taking the time to remember a name in this busy society goes a long way in making lasting positive impressions on others. Science has proven that we remember things in three’s so I like to have three pathways set up to remember names.
  • First I makeup a rhyme like for Robert, Robert Bobert
  • I then connect Robert to someone I know “Robert is Becky’s husband” or “Robert like my Uncle Robert”
  • My final connection is made by saying the name back to Robert three times
  • “How are you Robert” “ Helen have you and Robert seen the latest movie?” “do you have any pets Robert?”
2. Ask open ended questions
People like to be listened to and some people are shy, avoid yes or no questions that block the flow of conversation and use open ended questions an example of an open-ended question is “what is your favorite restaurant and why?” an example of a question that blocks the flow of conversation would be “do you like food?”
3. Shift the Conversation from yourself to others to allow others to talk about themselves.
I used to be a nervous rambler and anytime I met someone I would nervously talk about myself, this lead me to knowing little about people that I met in life and always being left with a feeling of longing to see them again to ask more questions. I made it my mission to learn as much as possible about others and share as little as possible about myself unless of course I am asked and then I provide short concise answers, this way others are left wanting to learn more and you leave knowing a lot about your new social connections.
4. Use body language to show others you are interested in them
Making eye contact with others who are speaking and leaning in or mirroring others body language goes a long way in making others feel more comfortable and want to be around you. When making eye contact remember to look down then back up every few seconds so you don’t come across too intense. If you are speaking, make sure to use your eyes to engage with everyone fairly especially in groups of three.
5. Do not exclude others
Get togethers are for making friends and being social be mindful not to create circles that exclude other people from joining because you will miss out on building new relationships and may make others feel secluded or left out. Treat others how you yourself would like to be treated, chances are high that if you find yourself at the same get together as another person that you are likely to see them again so don’t be rude.

Never Be Rude                Always Be Polite

As Promised the worst party fails I have experienced
The first party fail happened at a wedding cocktail hour, a group of women who were long time girlfriends made a statement exclusively taking pictures together and getting other women to take the pictures while others awkwardly watched and felt left out.The girls should have made the energy more open by gathering everyone together to feel included and asking a wedding staff person to take the photo for a keepsake for the bride and groom of the special blend of friends.
The next party fail moment was at a get together where two women were clearly sitting next to one another texting to make fun of someone in the room, not sure if it was me but it felt like it because when people do rude things it makes everyone feel uncomfortable. Phone bullying is rude whether someone is trying to embarrass someone on an Instagram video or snapchat or people in the room are clearly texting each other and making fun of someone in the room the behavior is obvious and repels all good people who make life better while attracting all the people who are drama and make life worse.
The final party fail was where one woman had a low cut dress and had a wardrobe malfunction, instead of quietly pulling the woman aside this woman savagely yells across a table full of people that this woman is exposing herself, even if she was which she wasn’t you pull someone aside and quietly let them know they have a wardrobe malfunction or lipstick on their teeth, calling people out and embarrassing them is very rude and just makes the rude person seem jealous and petty.

Veuve Clicqout Apple Pie Mimosa

Mimosas are making a huge comeback in 2017. Bridal and wedding showers, weekend brunch and parties are just some of the occasions where mimosas are a popular drink of choice. Mimosas are traditionally served as a mixture of Orange juice and Champagne and they are world famous for being refreshing and light to drink. The Mimosa is named after a bright yellow blossoming flower that can be found in the South of Mexico and throughout the South and Central America’s.

Battle of the Mimosa

The origin of the mimosa is up for debate as some believe the beverage was invented at The Ritz Hotel in Paris France in the year 1925 by Frank Meier and others believe that Frank the French bartender stole the idea from a London England tavern that called their mimosa “Buck’s Fizz” The difference between the two Mimosas a the Ritz uses a 50/50 ratio while Bucks opts for a sweeter version with 75 percent orange juice to champagne.

Apple Pie Mimosa

  1. Take One Champagne Flute
  2. In a bowl mix together equal parts of Brown sugar and White sugar, season the sugar to your desired taste using Nutmeg, Cinnamon and Ginger
  3. Dip the Champagne Flute in Apple Cider and rim the Flute in the Sugar mixture
  4. You can then choose to make your mimosa the Ritz way (50 % Veuve Clicqout Champagne Brut by Veuve Clicquot and 50% Apple Cider) or the Buzz Fizz way (25% Veuve Clicqout Champagne Brut by Veuve Clicquot and 75% Apple Cider
  5. Repeat Steps 1-4  because you won’t want to drink just one

Tips on how to make clothes shopping easier

The worst shopping experience I ever had was one day my girlfriend Laura and myself had done a bunch of shopping and had chosen a bunch of clothes that were on sale and stores only had one piece of the clothes we fell in love with, we got tired and sat down to have a rest, we weren’t organized and left our bags behind. By the time we realized we had messed up our bags were gone. I since that day have created a shopping code that I follow to maximize my shopping trips to the mall or when I travel to a new place to make it more comfortable and time efficient. I have shared the code with you below. Tips on how to make clothes shopping easier
Before you go shopping take snaps of outfits you like on celebrities, social media friends , youtube stars, or stylish people from websites to help guide you.Tips on how to make clothes shopping easier
Have three areas in the change-room yes maybe and definitely no don’t try, anything you hum and ha about put immediately into the no pile.

Wear leggings and a tank top for easy changing and trying things over top to save time such as sweaters. I love this look on Cara Loren comfortable and stylish and the hat is nice for entering and exiting the stores. I have really been wearing a ton of black hats with yoga pants and casual tanks lately and it turns heads because it gives off an inspiring vibe of someone who carries themselves with respect to their bodies, fitness and curating a more upbeat personality that is strong, powerful and who isn’t afraid to take risks. Tips on how to make clothes shopping easier

Wear a beige bra or the right undergarments for what you wish to try on like a body shaper or strapless bra. This Wonderbra from Hudson’s Bay is soft and comfortable. I also recommend having a strapless bra for other looks like this strapless convertible bra from joe fresh for only 16$.

Wear shoes that are easy to slip on and off. I love to wear comfortable shoes that are easy to slip on and off for shopping like these ophira shoes from GeoxIMG_6838Bring a small water bringing a water is essential because shopping is cardio and stores can be dry.
Put on a bit of makeup, or style hair to shop because if we feel good we are more confident and walk out with better clothes.

Have a budget and do some planning  Decide the outfit you want at the more expensive stores and see if you can find similar pieces to build that wardrobe with sales rack items. Of course treat yourself if you find something unique or you can’t live without but I can usually find a more affordable style of the same clothing that I love and will splurge on a key piece like a bag or shoe.
This recent Elite Daily Article is helpful towards creating and understanding your clothing budget.

Small Book and pen writing down what you like in a small book and seeing how much each item costs is good for keeping your shopping budget and planning more versatile outfits. I enjoy this planner from ALWAYS X ALWAYS a local Canadian brand that feature the cutest leaf pattern and has been featured on Toronto Bloggers Rebecah of Wishbone and Clover Media Annika of Ferweh Society and Carling of Through her Style

A juice or smoothie it is good to stop for a juice break to collect your thoughts before you make your choices, the sugar gives a rush of energy to go back and make decisions, take time to respect your budget, the clothes you saw and what works with other clothing at home because planning saves return hassles. Village Juicery on College street in Toronto Ontario Canada is delicious and nutritious and a favorite of mine however most towns and cities have a juice bar or one can make their own juices at home.

Knowing the mall plan, or peeking at the layout of department stores before you navigate the mall can reduce the stress associated  with getting lost and maximizes your efficiency while shopping.
Here is an Example of a mall map most most have plans that are available online for mobile phones and computers. CF Sherway Gardens mall just opened a renovated wing and a brand new Nordstrom in September 2017.

How I received a Triangl bikini from instagram

Triangl hasn’t spent a cent on advertising, relying wholly on the photo-sharing platform — think suntanned models frolicking on tropical beaches — where it has 3.1 million followers. “Having no money was a blessing in disguise,” says Ellis. While they do give swimwear to celebrities and others who influence trends, there’s “nothing transactional”, he says. “This way, there’s a sense of authenticity that’s way more powerful than a billboard.” Triangl’s own account boasts over 3 million followers, and the image-based social media platform has been crucial to the company’s cult following. reported The Australian

Thank you to Triangl and Erin and Craig for sending me my beautiful swimsuit

How To Select a Ripe Juicy Pineapple

Step-by-Step Guide To Selecting a Ripe Pineapple

Step 1- Check the color of pineapple skin – The skin should be yellowish gold in color with no white or brown areas. The higher the yellow reaches on the pineapple, the more even the flavor will be throughout the fruit.

Step 2- Look at and feel the texture of the pineapple- A wrinkled texture means the fruit has deteriorated inside, feel the pineapple make sure its firm with a bit of a give to the skin check for soft spots or indents, Look out for any leaks or cracks in the skin and look to see if leaves are stiff and brown.

Step 3- Inspect the pineapple eyes- Carefully inspect the eyes on the top and bottom of the pineapple, the larger the eyes the longer the pineapple stayed on the plant to get ripe and become sweet.

Step 4- Smell the pineapple- The pineapple should smell a bit sweet but not too sweet if you smell a hint of alcohol or the pineapple smells too sweet, it has over-ripened and is not the one.

Step 5- Tap your pineapple and listen to the sound it makes- a ripe pineapple when tapped will sound weighty and dull but an unripened pineapple will sound hollow.

Step 6- Go home with your ripe delicious and nutritious pineapple and enjoy

Step 7- Store your pineapple on the counter and eat it within 3-5 days you can also refrigerate any pineapple that has been sliced but keep in mind once sliced it is almost impossible to look at and know whether it is past its shelf life and always eat within 6 days.
