How to be more popular at parties and social gatherings

Tips for being popular at parties and social gatherings
Treat others how you would like to be treated
1. Remember others names
Calling someone by name and taking the time to remember a name in this busy society goes a long way in making lasting positive impressions on others. Science has proven that we remember things in three’s so I like to have three pathways set up to remember names.
  • First I makeup a rhyme like for Robert, Robert Bobert
  • I then connect Robert to someone I know “Robert is Becky’s husband” or “Robert like my Uncle Robert”
  • My final connection is made by saying the name back to Robert three times
  • “How are you Robert” “ Helen have you and Robert seen the latest movie?” “do you have any pets Robert?”
2. Ask open ended questions
People like to be listened to and some people are shy, avoid yes or no questions that block the flow of conversation and use open ended questions an example of an open-ended question is “what is your favorite restaurant and why?” an example of a question that blocks the flow of conversation would be “do you like food?”
3. Shift the Conversation from yourself to others to allow others to talk about themselves.
I used to be a nervous rambler and anytime I met someone I would nervously talk about myself, this lead me to knowing little about people that I met in life and always being left with a feeling of longing to see them again to ask more questions. I made it my mission to learn as much as possible about others and share as little as possible about myself unless of course I am asked and then I provide short concise answers, this way others are left wanting to learn more and you leave knowing a lot about your new social connections.
4. Use body language to show others you are interested in them
Making eye contact with others who are speaking and leaning in or mirroring others body language goes a long way in making others feel more comfortable and want to be around you. When making eye contact remember to look down then back up every few seconds so you don’t come across too intense. If you are speaking, make sure to use your eyes to engage with everyone fairly especially in groups of three.
5. Do not exclude others
Get togethers are for making friends and being social be mindful not to create circles that exclude other people from joining because you will miss out on building new relationships and may make others feel secluded or left out. Treat others how you yourself would like to be treated, chances are high that if you find yourself at the same get together as another person that you are likely to see them again so don’t be rude.

Never Be Rude                Always Be Polite

As Promised the worst party fails I have experienced
The first party fail happened at a wedding cocktail hour, a group of women who were long time girlfriends made a statement exclusively taking pictures together and getting other women to take the pictures while others awkwardly watched and felt left out.The girls should have made the energy more open by gathering everyone together to feel included and asking a wedding staff person to take the photo for a keepsake for the bride and groom of the special blend of friends.
The next party fail moment was at a get together where two women were clearly sitting next to one another texting to make fun of someone in the room, not sure if it was me but it felt like it because when people do rude things it makes everyone feel uncomfortable. Phone bullying is rude whether someone is trying to embarrass someone on an Instagram video or snapchat or people in the room are clearly texting each other and making fun of someone in the room the behavior is obvious and repels all good people who make life better while attracting all the people who are drama and make life worse.
The final party fail was where one woman had a low cut dress and had a wardrobe malfunction, instead of quietly pulling the woman aside this woman savagely yells across a table full of people that this woman is exposing herself, even if she was which she wasn’t you pull someone aside and quietly let them know they have a wardrobe malfunction or lipstick on their teeth, calling people out and embarrassing them is very rude and just makes the rude person seem jealous and petty.
The photo is from The Store on Queen Tea Party the owners of this Toronto store Vava and Angela also known as Hubby and Wifey are always the most fun women to party with.

The Best things to do in Toronto for Halloween

Casa Loma (1 Austin Terrace), 7-11 pm. $40-$45. To October 31.

Casa Loma has been transformed into a huge haunted house. Inside the house are a number of classic horror characters. The Castle has a two Kilometre trail beginning at the lower garden then through all of the winding and dark corners of the Castle.

Toronto Island (99 Harbour Square), 7:40-11:40 pm. $25. To October 31.

This is Toronto’s newest haunted horror. The Spooky Lagoon is a boat tour that sets out to discover the truth behind the 1815 murder of the first lighthouse keeper JP Radelmuller, a bootlegger who was believed to have been taken out by soldiers from Old Fort York. You can do this tour any weekend in October, maybe if you are lucky you will witness some of the nexplained lights and shadowy forms.

Colborne Lodge (11 Colborne Lodge), various times for adults, families and children. $27.50-$32.50. October 21 to 26.

For the West end crowd, the High Park walk is the perfect scary adventure. Walk the trails at on of the cities most frequently visited outdoor attraction. The tour explores the grounds where you learm ghostly tales such as the death on Grenadier park and a visit to the Colborne Lodge house which is reportedly haunted by its former lady owner Jemimah Howard.

16 Fleming (Brampton). $5-$7. Daytime 11 am-5 pm, October 27-31. Night time, 7-10:30 pm, October 27, 28 & 31.

This Scare Maze is complete with live actors, special fx, lights, sounds and props. This years theme is demons and the French revolution. Just a short drive from Toronto this attraction is a favourite of mine. Daytime walks are also available for younger children and are modified to be less terrifying than the night attractions.

Tickets are priced at $25.00 for adults, $16.50 for post-secondary students and youth ages 17 and under, and $21.50 for seniors

The Art Gallery of Ontario offers a glimpse into the mind of filmmaker Guillermo del Toro. Veuve Clicqout Apple Pie Mimosa

Mimosas are making a huge comeback in 2017. Bridal and wedding showers, weekend brunch and parties are just some of the occasions where mimosas are a popular drink of choice. Mimosas are traditionally served as a mixture of Orange juice and Champagne and they are world famous for being refreshing and light to drink. The Mimosa is named after a bright yellow blossoming flower that can be found in the South of Mexico and throughout the South and Central America’s.

Battle of the Mimosa

The origin of the mimosa is up for debate as some believe the beverage was invented at The Ritz Hotel in Paris France in the year 1925 by Frank Meier and others believe that Frank the French bartender stole the idea from a London England tavern that called their mimosa “Buck’s Fizz” The difference between the two Mimosas a the Ritz uses a 50/50 ratio while Bucks opts for a sweeter version with 75 percent orange juice to champagne.

Apple Pie Mimosa

  1. Take One Champagne Flute
  2. In a bowl mix together equal parts of Brown sugar and White sugar, season the sugar to your desired taste using Nutmeg, Cinnamon and Ginger
  3. Dip the Champagne Flute in Apple Cider and rim the Flute in the Sugar mixture
  4. You can then choose to make your mimosa the Ritz way (50 % Veuve Clicqout Champagne Brut by Veuve Clicquot and 50% Apple Cider) or the Buzz Fizz way (25% Veuve Clicqout Champagne Brut by Veuve Clicquot and 75% Apple Cider
  5. Repeat Steps 1-4  because you won’t want to drink just one

Tips on how to make clothes shopping easier

The worst shopping experience I ever had was one day my girlfriend Laura and myself had done a bunch of shopping and had chosen a bunch of clothes that were on sale and stores only had one piece of the clothes we fell in love with, we got tired and sat down to have a rest, we weren’t organized and left our bags behind. By the time we realized we had messed up our bags were gone. I since that day have created a shopping code that I follow to maximize my shopping trips to the mall or when I travel to a new place to make it more comfortable and time efficient. I have shared the code with you below. Tips on how to make clothes shopping easier
Before you go shopping take snaps of outfits you like on celebrities, social media friends , youtube stars, or stylish people from websites to help guide you.Tips on how to make clothes shopping easier
Have three areas in the change-room yes maybe and definitely no don’t try, anything you hum and ha about put immediately into the no pile.

Have a budget and do some planning  Decide the outfit you want at the more expensive stores and see if you can find similar pieces to build that wardrobe with sales rack items. Of course treat yourself if you find something unique or you can’t live without but I can usually find a more affordable style of the same clothing that I love and will splurge on a key piece like a bag or shoe.
This recent Elite Daily Article is helpful towards creating and understanding your clothing budget.

Small Book and pen writing down what you like in a small book and seeing how much each item costs is good for keeping your shopping budget and planning more versatile outfits. A juice or smoothie it is good to stop for a juice break to collect your thoughts before you make your choices, the sugar gives a rush of energy to go back and make decisions, take time to respect your budget, the clothes you saw and what works with other clothing at home because planning saves return hassles. Village Juicery on College street in Toronto Ontario Canada is delicious and nutritious and a favorite of mine however most towns and cities have a juice bar or one can make their own juices at home.

Knowing the mall plan, or peeking at the layout of department stores before you navigate the mall can reduce the stress associated  with getting lost and maximizes your efficiency while shopping.
Here is an Example of a mall map most most have plans that are available online for mobile phones and computers. CF Sherway Gardens mall just opened a renovated wing and a brand new Nordstrom in September 2017.

How I received a Triangl bikini from instagram

Triangl hasn’t spent a cent on advertising, relying wholly on the photo-sharing platform — think suntanned models frolicking on tropical beaches — where it has 3.1 million followers. “Having no money was a blessing in disguise,” says Ellis. While they do give swimwear to celebrities and others who influence trends, there’s “nothing transactional”, he says. “This way, there’s a sense of authenticity that’s way more powerful than a billboard.” Triangl’s own account boasts over 3 million followers, and the image-based social media platform has been crucial to the company’s cult following. reported The Australian

Thank you to Triangl and Erin and Craig for sending me my beautiful swimsuit

How To Select a Ripe Juicy Pineapple

Step-by-Step Guide To Selecting a Ripe Pineapple

Step 1- Check the color of pineapple skin – The skin should be yellowish gold in color with no white or brown areas. The higher the yellow reaches on the pineapple, the more even the flavor will be throughout the fruit.

Step 2- Look at and feel the texture of the pineapple- A wrinkled texture means the fruit has deteriorated inside, feel the pineapple make sure its firm with a bit of a give to the skin check for soft spots or indents, Look out for any leaks or cracks in the skin and look to see if leaves are stiff and brown.

Step 3- Inspect the pineapple eyes- Carefully inspect the eyes on the top and bottom of the pineapple, the larger the eyes the longer the pineapple stayed on the plant to get ripe and become sweet.

Step 4- Smell the pineapple- The pineapple should smell a bit sweet but not too sweet if you smell a hint of alcohol or the pineapple smells too sweet, it has over-ripened and is not the one.

Step 5- Tap your pineapple and listen to the sound it makes- a ripe pineapple when tapped will sound weighty and dull but an unripened pineapple will sound hollow.

Step 6- Go home with your ripe delicious and nutritious pineapple and enjoy

Step 7- Store your pineapple on the counter and eat it within 3-5 days you can also refrigerate any pineapple that has been sliced but keep in mind once sliced it is almost impossible to look at and know whether it is past its shelf life and always eat within 6 days.

Kiehl’s Comes to Canada

I recently joined the staff of Kiehl’s Queen Street West for their launch event. I was super excited to see that Kiehl’s opened here in Toronto Canada, because I have been trying to get my hands on their Lip # 1 treatment for years since my cousin brought me back a few from her trip to Korea. The event was fabulous, Kiehl’s didn’t miss a detail.

The event was catered by Kupfert and Kim with fresh coffee from Cali love.

I dug into a few of the chocolate covered strawberries from the locally owned and run shotberry

Kiehl’s features modern and classic style around their store and their products are all organized by sections making it easy to find just what you are looking for.

Peter Grande is the Assistant manager at the Toronto Eaton Center Kiehl’s location and works with their Canadian Public Relations team he is passionate when it comes to skincare and very knowlegable. I will be returning to Kiel’s Eaton Center sometime over the upcoming weeks for a one on one with Peter so he can create a custom blend oil for my skin. Peter is also a blogger and has some amazing tips and recommendations on his blog

Keihl’s gives back to the community and is a proud sponsor and supporter ofCamp Ooch.

Now a little but about the products I took home with me.

Lip Balm #1 SPF 4 sunscreen. Relieves Cracked or Chapped Lips. Not Tested on Animals. Temporarily protects and helps relieve chapped or cracked lips. Helps protect lips from the drying effects of wind and cold weather.
I Love this lip balm and so does my hubby, great for both men and women it keeps my lips hydrated and smells amazing.

With antioxidants, including lemon butter, combined with broad spectrum SPF 25 sunscreen, Butterstick Lip Treatment SPF 25 provides year-round protection for lips. Lips feel and look softer, smoother and moisturised, and stay hydrated for up to 12 hours after application.
Having been a fan of Lip Balm #1 I was so excited to try the Butterstick in pop of peonies, it is the perfect shade of summery pink, perk of this product is its long lasting I feel this product working its magic hours later as they claim and in the past few weeks I have seen a reduction of lines around my lips due to the amazing natural ingredients.
Midnight Recovery Cleansing Oil This all-in one non-comedogenic cleansing formula emulsifies with water to a cleansing milk, gently, yet effectively dissolving even difficult-to-remove makeup and impurities without over-drying. It leaves skin not only fresh and clean but also skin balanced, soothed and prepared for optimal night-time replenishment. made from an aromatic blend of pure botanical oils: Squalane, a planted-derived lipid with a natural affinity for skin; Evening Primrose Oil, rich in Omega-6 Fatty Acids; and Lavender Essential Oil. Midnight Recovery Concentrate One night. A few drops. Younger-looking skin by morning. Skin’s moisture level is replenished overnight. 99.8% Naturally Derived Ingredients. Helps to recover radiance by morning. Paraben-Free.

Rich and creamy non-migrating formula that delivers moisture to the delicate under eye-area. Gently protects the skin against external aggressors.
Everything recommended to treat my eyes always makes them burn, not Keihl’s, I love how thick the product goes on without looking thick and I do see a reduction of puffiness and dark circles once I use this treatment.

Summer Skincare with The Lotus Project

Recently  I joined Aisha and friends of The Lotus Project for a day of summer sangria and participated in a skin care workshop where we gave ourselves facials and learned techniques to use during our every day daily skin- care routine. I wanted to share with you what I learned and a few of my tried and tested favorites by the Skintelligence skin care line.

I met Aisha part time “Mompreneur”, currently working in the insurance industry, and also founder of The Lotus Project, whose admiration of the Buddhist practice provided a foundation for The Lotus project. The Lotus Project is a lifestyle brand designed to build a community for driven millennials, multi-preneurs and the like to provide a one stop online resource to support growth, inspire and connect. A lotus flower grows from murky waters, blooms out of the darkness and radiates into the world.  Like the lotus, we all have the ability to grow and be successful in everything we do despite what the origin of our beginnings may be- mud and all. The Lotus encourages you to live by your own rules, be fearless, remember community over competition and always give back. With your feet planted and head to the sky: “Rise and be beautiful in everything you do.”

The workshop was lead by fellow blogger Khristine KCHEZELLE her blog explores fitness, knitting, skin-care, makeup and general lifestyle, she is a diverse girl and I look forward to learning more from her at upcoming workshops.

Khristine was assisted by instagramer Marigold Bandida , she is full of great tips for makeup and skincare and a makeup application teacher at workshops around the gta.

Skintelligence is a skin care line that uses natural extracts to soothe and maintain healthy skin, I found the products were not only natural but also did not irritate my sensitive skin.

I learned the following tips about skincare product application.

  1. Make sure to pat products into the skin and not rub them in, rubbing wastes product and causes sagging and wrinkles.
  2. The applicator on the eye cream was made of metal, the ladies suggested putting cold metal under the eyes to activate and stimulate the dead blood that cause our eyes to look puffy and dead.
  3. tFor a more radient glow, treating skin issues from the inside is recommended, we tried the twice a day liquid antioxidants which have 95 % absorption rate.
  4. When using a facial wash, always rub a bit of product in your hand before applying to activate and emulsify the cleanser.
  5. Proper pH balance is essential for your skin, the surface of human skin is acidic with a pH ~5. This low pH value is maintained through the production of free fatty acids during cell maturation and our secretion of fatty and lactic acids in sweat.

I was rather impressed with the line of products that I used in my facial mini session A Facial Cleanser, A Facial Mask, A Facial Spray and a Facial Serum.

Skintelligence Hydra Derm Deep Cleansing Emulsion  cleanser activates in water and is a deep penetrating cleanser that loosens and removes dirt, makeup and oil and contains aloe vera, chamomile extract and lavender extract.

The Skintelligence Facial Firming Masque facial mask promotes circulation and improves visual signs of aging caused by stress and the environment. The amazing natural ingredients in this product include aloe leaf extract and lavender oil to help to soothe any irritated skin.

I personally loved how fast this product worked, after 12 minutes I could see a difference in my skin tone and appearance it looked radiant and more firm, the mask was different than most because it was clear.

Skintelligence pH Skin Normalizer spray assists your skin to maintain normal pH levels while helping the skin fight the effects of pollution and other environmental conditions while improving skin’s natural barrier function.

I loved that the product exfoliates dead skin cells and removes dirt, makeup and oil that clog pores while having an alcohol-free formula that supports elasticity and an even skin tone. This product is perfect for spraying on after a summer swim or when it gets hot as a freshening mist.

A drop of Skintelligence Skin Perfecting Complex serum promotes smoother skin. I loved that this product contained proteins and amino acids and natural ingredients such as dandelion, carrot, lemon grass and violet.
